THE SPATIAL VOCABULARY

Spaces, composed.

A space, its compositions,
and the experience it proposes.

Pavillion, a curved white spatial enclosure with a counter and people

Earlier visual studies

Concept imagery from the first edition. Not registered research assets.

Pavillion is an author-supplied spatial design. Earlier concept images are generated studies. Feelings describe design intentions, not established psychological effects.

RESEARCH IN PROGRESS

What changes
when space changes?

We study how spatial conditions may influence emotion and experience. The current inquiry begins with low overhead space.

01 / CONDITIONS

Describe the space.

Height, proportion, coverage and the relationship to other spatial elements.

02 / EXPERIENCE

Leave room for difference.

When might a low ceiling feel sheltering? When might it feel constraining? These are questions, not established effects.

03 / EVIDENCE

Follow the evidence.

Distinguish hypotheses, observations, literature and explicit testing. Modelling alone does not validate an experience.

ISLANDABLE

Space is a composition.
Experience is the question.

Islandable is a human-centred spatial research and design practice. We build a vocabulary of spatial compositions, then explore how they form complete, functional and distinctive spaces.

Research comes first. The website shares the work, its uncertainties and the questions that remain.
